This stunning chess and backgammon set was made in Esfahan, Iran using the ancient Persian marquetry technique, Khatam, where wooden articles are decorated with delicate, precisely cut, geometric pieces of wood, bone and precious metals.
The board is partially hand-painted with an intricate pattern, often featured in Islamic architecture, art and calligraphy.
